Bears sign Briggs to one-year deal

Football Betting Lines

07/25/2007 - Lake Forest, IL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Chicago Bears and Pro Bowl linebacker Lance Briggs agreed to a one-year contract Wednesday for the 2007 franchise tender amount, which comes in just over $7 million.

The relationship between Briggs and the Bears became strained after Briggs was designated the franchise player, leading to him missing offseason workouts and threatening a holdout.

Prior to the signing, it was in doubt whether he would suit up for the Bears again.

A veteran of four NFL seasons, Briggs was named to his second straight Pro Bowl following the 2006 campaign in which he recorded a career-high 176 tackles. He added a sack, two interceptions, nine pass break-ups, four forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.

Briggs started all 16 games for the third consecutive season.

A third-round selection by Chicago in the 2003 NFL Draft, Briggs has amassed 595 tackles and 3 1/2 sacks in four seasons.
